Dr. Francis Gurry, former director-general of WIPO, recently held a webinar that explored several key issues and global trends relating to trade secrets. This webinar was first broadcast on Thursday 26 October, 2023.
Available evidence suggests that trade secrets have grown in importance over the past two decades. The greater importance attached to trade secrets results from the volume of valuable business and technical information generated by the use of IT, the reliance on partners in supply chains, the increased mobility of skilled personnel, and some perceived short-comings in the effectiveness of patent protection.
In this special briefing, Dr. Francis Gurry discussed several key issues and global trends relating to trade secrets, including:
- The legal principles applicable to trade secret protection;
- Differences in national approaches, and;
- Practical measures for safeguarding trade secrets that emerge from cases.
